THE TRUTH BEYOND THE MIRROR.
From 1 Corinthians 15:42–44 we read these words, “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.”
THE TRUTH BEYOND THE MIRROR. Have you looked in the mirror lately and noticed it telling a different story? A little more gray, a little less hair. New wrinkles that seemed to appear overnight. Aches that show up uninvited and hang around longer than they should. Steps that aren’t quite as quick, energy that doesn’t last as long. Day by day, these ole bodies remind us we’re getting older and we’re feeling it. And if we’re honest, getting older isn’t easy. As someone said, “Getting old isn’t for sissies.” Some days, you feel that truth more than others. But for the child of God, this isn’t the end of the story, it’s just a chapter in the process. Because the resurrection of Jesus guarantees something far greater than what we see in the mirror. This body may be fading, but one day, we will be raised with a brand new one—untouched by time, pain, or aging.
LIKE A SEED IN THE GROUND. In our verses for today, the apostle Paul paints a powerful picture for us. He compares our present body to a seed. When a seed is planted, it doesn’t look like much. It’s small, plain, even looks lifeless. But when you bury it under the dirt, something amazing begins to happen. Why? Because that seed is not the end, it’s the beginning. An acorn becomes a mighty oak. A simple seed bursts forth into something beautiful, strong, and full of life. In the same way, this body, though it’s aging, becoming more and more frail and weak is only what’s being planted. And just like with Jesus, when our bodies are resurrected, they will be far greater than anything we can imagine. The Bible reminds us, “Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16). While the outer man is declining, God is at work strengthening and renewing the inner man. What’s happening inside of you matters far more than what you see in the mirror every day.
A COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION. This transformation isn’t just future, it’s already begun. The moment a person comes to the Lord, there is an immediate change in the spirit. We are made right with God. The burden of sin is lifted, we’re born again and new life begins. Then the transformation continues in the soul day by day, decision by decision, as we grow to be more and more like Jesus. But one day, that transformation will be complete. When Jesus come back at the rapture of the church, the Bible tells us, “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye… we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51–52). Think about that…no gradual improvement, no long process, but an immediate, complete transformation. There’ll be no more pain…no more weakness…no more sickness…and, praise God, more death! Amen?! As our verses pfor today remind us, these bodies that are now perishable, will become imperishable. What is now weak will be raised in power. What is now natural will be raised spiritual, perfect, and eternal.
SO REMEMBER…The next time you feel weakened by the weight of age…The next time you become depressed as you look in that mirror… the next time your body reminds you you’re not near what you used to be…Don’t lose heart! What you see is not all there is. What you feel is not the final chapter. A great transformation is coming. There is a day on God’s calendar when it will be out with the old and in with the new. God has something far better prepared for you. And when that day comes, you’ll understand—every ache, every struggle, every passing year was moving you closer to glory. Amen?
So take a moment today and thank the Lord—not only for what He has done, but for what He has promised. Because the best is not behind you.
For the believer, the best is yet to come. That’s the truth beyond the mirror. Think it over …🙏
