AS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH

From Matthew 24:37 we read, “But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

AS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH. When Jesus described what the world would be like just before His return, He pointed all the way back to Noah’s day. That alone ought to get our attention. Why would Jesus compare the last days to the days of Noah? Because the similarities of Noah’s day and today are impossible to ignore. How is our day much like Noah’s day?

NO FEAR OF GOD. Genesis 6:5 describes Noah’s day when it says, “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Violence filled the earth. Morality had collapsed. People lived as though God didn’t exist and judgment would never come. Sound familiar? We are living in a generation where sin is no longer hidden…it is promoted openly and celebrated proudly. What once caused shame is now applauded, while those who still stand on God’s Word are often mocked and criticized. The fear of God has largely disappeared from our society, and many live as though there will never be a day of accountability.

PREOCCUPIED WITH EVERYDAY LIFE. In the middle of all the sinful darkness, people in Noah’s day just kept living life as usual. Jesus said they were “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” right up until the flood came. In other words, they were consumed with everyday life but completely unconcerned about eternity. Noah preached for years while building the ark, warning that judgment was coming, but most ignored him and went on with life as though nothing would ever change. That sounds exactly like the world we are living in today. It’s like a smoke alarm going off in a house. Most people find the sound irritating and try to silence it, but when the fire finally breaks out, they suddenly realize the warning was there to save them. God’s warnings in Scripture are not given just to scare us; they are given to prepare us. Every sermon, every Bible verse, every Gospel invitation, and every conviction of the Holy Spirit is God lovingly reminding people that there is still time to turn  to Him.

UNBELIEF. Another striking similarity to Noah’s day is that only a few believed. Out of the entire world population at that time, only Noah and his family entered the ark. The majority laughed, rejected the truth, and refused to listen. Can I remind you that the majority is not always right? Just because most people reject God’s Word does not make it any less true. Truth has never been determined by popular opinion.

But one day the time for warning ended. Noah entered the ark and Genesis says, “the Lord shut him in.” Imagine the scene. At first, people probably laughed as Noah and his family stepped inside. But then heavy black clouds formed. Thunder started rolling. The rain began to fall. Suddenly, what they had mocked became reality. The same people who ignored the warnings realized too late that Noah had been right all along.

THE ARK. Friend, one day Jesus Christ is coming again just as He promised. The trumpet will sound, and this world that laughs at preaching and ignores God will suddenly realize the Bible was true the whole time. The signs are everywhere, and the stage is being set exactly as Scripture said it would be. We are not waiting for the world to get better; we are waiting for the King to return. But here is the wonderful news: just as there was an ark in Noah’s day, God has provided an Ark of safety today through His Son, Jesus Christ. Those who place their faith in Him are safe from the judgment to come. The door of grace is still open, but it will not remain open forever.

HOW IS IT WITH YOU TODAY? Jesus said, “Therefore be ye also ready: for in suchan hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Mat.24:44). Are you ready? Because as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when the Son of Man comes. Think it over…🙏
